Our Commitment to Sustainability
As a small, owner-run company, we don't have a corporate sustainability department — but we do have direct control over how our two homes actually run, and we'd rather make real changes than put a green logo on the website and call it done. Here's what we're working on across both properties.
Heating and insulation
Both homes are fitted with loft and cavity wall insulation to reduce the energy needed to heat them, and we've installed new, highly efficient boilers at the properties — cutting gas use and emissions compared to the units they replaced. We're also moving both properties onto smart, remotely controlled thermostats — so heating can be scheduled properly and adjusted between guest stays, rather than left running unnecessarily.
Energy use
We're replacing bulbs across both homes with LED lighting as fixtures need updating, and choosing energy-efficient appliances when it's time to replace anything in the kitchen or utility areas.
Recycling and waste
Both properties are set up with clear recycling bins alongside general waste, with instructions in the guest guidebook so it's easy to sort correctly during your stay. We're also cutting down on single-use plastics in guest welcome packs, in favour of refillable or paper-based alternatives.
Water
We're fitting water-efficient shower heads and taps as bathrooms are refreshed, and we ask guests to reuse towels where they're happy to, rather than defaulting to a full daily change on longer stays.
Where we're headed
This is a working list, not a finished one. As each home gets refreshed — a bathroom update, a kitchen appliance replaced — we're using it as a chance to make a more efficient choice rather than a like-for-like swap. If you're staying with us and have a suggestion, we'd genuinely like to hear it.
